U.S. Senate Confirms Vilsack As New Ag Secretary
Tom Vilsack is officially the once and again U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, after the Senate voted 92 to seven to confirm his role on February 23.
In his remarks following the confirmation, Vilsack noted a laundry list of goals to be worked toward including containing COVID-19, overcoming systemic barriers, ensuring fair markets for U.S. producers, the development of new income opportunities, increasing access to healthy and nutritious food, and making historic investments in infrastructure and clean energy.
Both the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) and U.S. Wheat Growers (UWG) expressed their support for Vilsack’s return-appointment - noting their approval of his return to a leadership position at the USDA, citing his qualifications from his previous service including an exceptional understanding of U.S. ag and rural issues that place him in a unique position to create policies that benefit rural America.
