South Dakota Soybean Checkoff Invests $2.5M in POET Bioproducts Center
The South Dakota Soybean Research and Promotion Council is investing $2.5 million over a period of five years in the POET Bioproducts Center to drive the advancement of biotechnology and sustainable innovation.
Located in the South Dakota State University Research Park, the center is aiming to ignite transformative progress beginning in animal feed and bioproducts by advancing the soybean industry and its role in fostering a greener future.
In addition to the South Dakota Soybean Checkoff investment, which will be allocated in $500,000 tranches over five years, the center has been made possible through $20 million in legislative funding, a $5 million commitment from POET, $2 million from South Dakota Corn, $3 million from the U.S. Economic Development Administration for the purchase of specialized lab equipment, and $500,000 yearly from the state of South Dakota to cover operational costs.
The partnerships surrounding this center reach beyond the field to drive economic growth in the state’s agricultural sector by harnessing the unique potential of soybeans to unlock opportunities beyond the state’s borders.
