Nutris Invests $30M to Open EU’s First Fava Bean/Potato Protein Facility
NUTRIS Group has invested $30 million to open the EU’s first hybrid facility to produce plant-based protein ingredients from fava beans and potatoes in Novi Senkovac, Croatia.
The project is a joint venture with SiccaDania, a Danish company providing engineering solutions for the plant-based industry. Together, the two companies have constructed a factory that uses groundbreaking technology developed over the course of a decade at the University of Copenhagen, and that has been tested and improved upon by both SiccaDania and NUTRIS.tech.
NUTRIS.tech produces protein isolates, starch, and fiber from fava beans and potatoes, and is currently cooperating with more than 250 family-run farms. The ultimate goal is to expand its farm partnerships to 1,000 and to reach production capacity of 70,000 tons of high-quality ingredients for the food industry by 2025.
The plant-based ingredients produced from raw ingredients sourced from across the EU at the site are marketed under the NutriSmart brand, and are gluten-free, allergen-free, offer a neutral taste, and are suitable for vegan and vegetarian food production.
