Largest Private Port Terminal in Brazil to Move Record Grain Volumes as Production Soars
Tiplam, the largest private port in Brazil, located at Santos, is expected to see its cargo handling increase by 6.8 percent to a record 12.5 million tons this year - a shift driven by record grain production in the country and strong demand for ag commodities from China.
Brazil is on track to harvest more than 154 million tons of soybeans and over 125 million tons of corn this season - records for both crops. Meanwhile, sugar output will also increase by almost 5 percent to 35.1 million tons in the country’s sugar belt in its center-south region.
Thanks to greater efficiency due to the construction of more private terminals, the use of river barges, and the development of northern ports, Brazil is now able to overcome years of logistics problems to become the world’s top exporter of soy and sugar.
As Brazil is currently in the midst of exporting a massive soybean crop, Tiplam’s total cargo handling capacity stands at 17 million tons, including 6.5 million tons for fertilizers.
