Alta Seeds Debuts First Ever Herbicide-Tolerant Forage Sorghum

More livestock farmers are acknowledging the potential for forage sorghum to create a high-quality forage at a lower cost ratio compared to traditional corn silage. And now, Alta Seeds, the premium seed brand of Advantage US, announced its debut of the first-ever herbicide-tolerant forage sorghum.

The company’s newest forage sorghum hybrid - ADV F848IG - is a member of Alta Seeds’ Enpyr Premier Forages lineup, and features igrowth technology for pre- and post-emergence weed control applications with Imiflex herbicide. More livestock farmers are acknowledging the potential for forage sorghum to create a high-quality forage at a lower cost ratio compared to traditional corn silage.

Last year, Alta Seeds was also the first to introduce herbicide-tolerant technology for grain sorghum - giving farmers the ability for the first time to use an herbicide to control grassy and broadleaf weeds in their igrowth sorghum fields. Forage sorghum also offers agronomic benefits, with research showing that the crop has half the soil erosion compared to conventional corn, and can grow in temperatures of up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit, while corn degenerates above 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
