ADM to Supply Corn to World’s Largest Insect Protein Production Site

ADM has partnered with leading global insect protein producer InnovaFeed to collaborate on the construction and operation of the world’s largest insect protein production site located in Decatur, Illinois.

Under the terms of the agreement the site will be owned and operated by InnovaFeed but co-located with ADM’s corn processing facility in Decatur with complementary infrastructure. ADM will supply corn for feedstock, waste-generated heat, and other supporting contributions to the collaborative operation model that will reduce CO2 emissions by 80 percent.

Construction of the site is scheduled to begin in 2021, and be carried out in two phases. Once completed, the facility will have a production capacity of 60,000 metric tons of animal feed protein derived from Hermetia Illucens, a type of fly. The plant will also have the ability to produce 20,000 tons of oils for poultry and swine rations each year, and 400,000 tons of fertilizer.
