CBH, Wide Open Agriculture Partner on Carbon Neutral Grain Pilot
CBH Group, the largest grain exporter in Australia, has partnered with Wide Open Agriculture, a regenerative food and farming business in Western Australia, on a pilot program to explore the certification, marketing, and global distribution of carbon neutral grains.
Owned by 3,900 grain growers across Western Australia, CBH has offices across Australia, Japan, and Hong Kong, and saw revenue exceeding $4 billion last year. Wide Open Agriculture has launched the innovative Dirty Clean Food brand that markets and distributes products that are chosen on the positive impact delivered to farmers and communities, and their market potential.
Under the agreement, the two companies will explore the feasibility of sourcing, certifying, marketing and distributing carbon neutral oats, barley and lupins from Western Australia, with execution to happen in line with the 2020/21 southern hemisphere grain growing season. The project will also examine the role regenerative agriculture can play in attaining these goals.
Carbon neutrality involves four factors:
Quantifying greenhouse gas emissions.
Reducing emission on on-farm production and along the supply chain
Offsetting the remaining emission footprint through the purchase of certified carbon credit units, and,
The certification of a product or organization to formally recognize them as Certified Carbon Neutral
