New Company, Grains Australia Launched by the Grains Research and Development Corporation

The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) of Australia announced the launch of Grains Australia - a new company dedicated to industry good functions and services (functions and services that provide net benefit to the industry as a whole) - created to assume the mission from smaller groups currently focused on the role.

This launch represents the first organization dedicated to industry good services and functions since deregulation and the dissolution of the wheat single desk. Since that time, industry good functions have been doled out piecemeal - such as grain classification being handled by Grain Trade Australia, and crop-specific initiatives being handled by Pulse Australia, or the Australian Oilseeds Federation.

The formation of Grains Australia was led by a steering committee consisting of Grain Growers Ltd, Grain Producers Australia, Grain Trade Australia, and the GRDC, however, GRDC is currently the sole member of GA and is providing all the initial funding. It is anticipated that industry members will play active roles through contributions such as involvement in committees, working groups, or councils as Grains Australia works towards its goals of:

  • establishing a grain classification system

  • the improvement of trade markets

  • long-term market analysis and to drive long-term value creation and demand

  • ensure technical support and training for customers of, and participants in, the Australian grain industry.
