Wenger Group Expands Grain Operations with Risser Grain Acquisition
The Wenger Group, a 75 year-old, family-owned, Pennsylvania-based agricultural products and services organization, announced it has agreed to acquire the grain and fertilizer operations of Risser Grain, a 45-year-old dealer of corn, wheat, soybeans, and barley, and an exclusive distributor of custom mixed fertilizer.
The deal includes seven grain operating locations with storage and processing capacity of millions of bushels of grain, a fertilizer facility, and a mill in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania, which Wenger began operating under a lease agreement with a Risser affiliate.
Although this deal will make Risser a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wenger, the Risser Grain name and brand will remain, and the operations will continue to function separately, with all existing Risser employees in place and Brent Risser continuing as president of the business.
Risser states that its new relationship with Wenger - a regional provider of poultry and swine feeds, performance ingredient solutions, niche market eggs, and allied services across the Mid-Atlantic region with nine feed milling locations in two states - will enable the company to offer greater attention to regional grain producers and its end-user customer base.
