Tate & Lyle, Land O’Lakes SUSTAIN Launch Sustainability Initiative on 1.5M Acres of Corn
Tate & Lyle, a global food, beverage, and ingredient solutions leader, and Land O’Lakes SUSTAIN, the sustainable solutions business of one of the U.S.’s largest farmer-owned cooperative, announced a new initiative to raise the level of sustainability on 1.5 million acres of U.S. corn.
This program builds on a pilot program launched by the two companies in November 2018, which was successful in lifting stewardship benchmarks on 300,000 acres of corn across farms in Illinois and Indiana.
Tate & Lyle is the first corn wet-milling company to launch such a program. And through it, the company aims to promote greater integration of sustainable farming practices, support its customers’ environmental initiatives and impact reporting, and increase transparency along the food and beverage supply chains.
Midwest corn farmers will receive customized support from their ag retailer to drive measurable improvement in greenhouse gas emissions, nitrogen efficiency, and soil quality, and to reduce water and wind erosion. This support will come through the Truterra Insight Engine launched last year by Land O’Lakes SUSTAIN, which will help farmers make data-informed decisions with acre-by-acre insights.
