North Dakota Grain Trader Pleads Guilty to $11.4M Fraud Scheme
Hunter Brian Hanson, a grain trader from Leeds, North Dakota, has pled guilty to an $11.4 million fraud scheme that ran through 2018. At only 22 years old, Hamson already owned multiple businesses including Midwest Grain Trading in Devils Lake, NoDak Grain, licensed grain warehouses in Tunbridge and Rohrville, Midwest Hauling & Transport, Hanson Motors, and Double HH Cattle.
However, these businesses were built on the fact that Hanson committed fraud against approximately 60 farmers, grain elevators, and brokers across North Dakota, Minnesota, and Canada to the tune of $11.4 million.
Charged with wire fraud and money laundering, Hanson faces 20 years in federal prison. As part of his plea deal, he has agreed to pay back $11,405,134.72 on installment, and to not appeal his sentence if it fell within recommended sentence guidelines.
