ADM Realigning Midwest Flour Milling Capacity
Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) announced it is realigning its flour milling capacity across the U.S. Midwest as its new high-capacity mill in Mendota, Illinois, is soon to come online.
Plans include ceasing production at its Nokomis flour mill in Minneapolis, Minnesota; its mill in Salina, Kansas; and its wheat mill in Chicago, Illinois, later this year.
The three facilities being closed are all more than a century old, and despite hardworking teams in place at each location, the age of the facilities is proving to be a constraint to operations. Capital has instead been dedicated to a growth investment in the state-of-the-art Mendota mill which will offer the needed efficiency, variety, and flexibility to meet growing demand across the region.
The Mendota plant will have the ability to grind hard and soft wheat varieties; will be able to unload 110-car shuttle trains; and will have a daily milling capacity of 30,000 cwt once it opens in the second half of 2019. The Mendota mill will join ADM’s recently modernized state-of-the-art mill in Enid, Oklahoma, which was opened late last year.
