AAFC Invests C$6.2M in the Canadian International Grains Institute
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) has agreed to invest up to C$6.2 million in the Canadian International Grains Institute (Cigi) - a non-profit organization launched in 1972 to work domestically within the grain and field crop supply chain, and internationally to increase the use of Canadian agricultural products.
The funds will be used to help expand the market for Canadian wheat through the implementation of market research, technical support, employee exchanges, and special training for both customers and commercial partners in more than 50 countries.
Through this initiative, which is funded through the AgriMarketing Program under the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP), the goal is for Cigi to forge strengthened relationships with buyers that can prevent future market loss, and to also develop new global market opportunities around the world. Throughout the first year, Cigi is expected to engage with customers in Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Gulf region.
