Axereal Acquires Cargill Malt Business

After being in the malt business since 1979, Cargill has agreed to sell its malting business to French cereals cooperative Axereal for an undisclosed amount.

The deal will be conducted through Axreal’s subsidiary Boortmalt, and will include 15 facilities across four continents and more than 500 Cargill employees. These assets will be added to Boortmalt’s existing 10 malting plants across Europe that produce more than a million tons of malt per year, half of which is exported to emerging markets.

The Cargill business processes barley into malt for the brewing, food, and beverage industries, and has operations in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Argentina, Belgium, Germany, France, Spain, and The Netherlands.
