COFCO Closing Toowoomba Office, Consolidating Presence in Australia

China-owned COFCO International is shuttering its office in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia - a closure will result in the removal of a major grain trader from the Darling Downs region.

The Toowoomba office became part of COFCO upon the completion of the second stage of its acquisition of Nidera last year. It was the only existing regional office for COFCO, and it served as a procurement hub for sorghum, and chickpeas, and was a trader of oilseeds, pulses, and cereals.

The closure is part of a larger plan by COFCO to consolidate its offices in Australia to only its existing office in Melbourne, where the company’s trading division is based.
