Star of the West Milling Expands into Organic with Acquisition
Star of the West Milling Co. has expanded its business into the organic sphere with the acquisition of a 60 percent stake in Michigan-based Everbest Organics. The decision to expand into organics was due to customer demand, according to Jim Howe, CEO of Star of the West.
With a processing facility in Munger, Everbest contracts with farmers from Michigan to California to grow soybeans and edible beans. The business also has a hand in corn and wheat, however, it does not process wheat.
Founded in 1870 in Frankenmuth, Star of the West Milling has grown over the years to include a flour and wheat division and an edible bean division that processes black, cranberry, dark red kidney, navy, pinto, small red, and non-GMO beans.
Expectations are that Star of the West will acquire the outstanding stake in Everbest Organics in the future.
