Organic Stakeholders to Test Anti-Fraud Measures
Stakeholders along the organic supply chain are partnering to test a three-month pilot program involving strident fraud detection, prevention, and mitigation practices.
These best-practices have been created over the past year by the Organic Trade Association’s (OTA) Global Organic Supply Chain Integrity Task Force after fraudulent shipments of grain labeled as organic were discovered originating from Eastern Europe.
Growing to become a $50 billion industry, it is critical for the organic grain industry to maintain the trust of consumers. This need has led the OTA to establish a 48-member task force with the mission to help players along the organic supply chain detect fraud through a prevention program that, once streamlined, will become a part of the annual organic inspection process under the USDA organic seal.
