Clif Bar, King Arthur Flour Fund $1.5M Organic Grain Endowment
Clif Bar and the King Arthur Flour Company have partnered to back a $1.5 million endowment to fund organic grain breeding research at Washington State University’s College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences.
This reflects the second endowment made by Clif Bar and the first by King Arthur in support of research to advance organic agricultural production. In 2015 Clif Bar announced it planned to raise $10 million by 2020 to fund endowed chairs in organic plant breeding at U.S. public universities, and has previously awarded $1.4 million to 16 graduate fellowships in organic plant breeding at colleges across the country.
Called The Clif Bar & King Arthur Flour Endowed Chair in Organic Grain Breeding & Innovation, the endowment has awarded Stephen Jones PhD., director of the WSU Bread Lab, $850,000 from Clif Bar, $150,000 from King Arthur, and varying donations from nine additional individuals and organizations to fund the continuation of organic grain research being conducted at the Bread Lab in perpetuity.
