New Year, New Procedures for China-bound U.S. Soybeans
With the new year comes new regulations enacted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) affecting soybean farmers and exporters.
New measures will require the USDA to give notice through an additional statement attached to the photosanitary certificate when any bulk or container shipment of U.S. soybeans exceeds one percent of foreign matter.
The USDA was notified of the new requirement in September after weed seeds and foreign material representing a quarantine situation were detected in U.S. shipments. Since that time the U.S. has stated that it is working to implement new science-based protocols from farm to export terminal during the next growing season to avoid such situations in the future.
