$300M Poultry Plant Coming to Arkansas
Simmons Prepared Foods is investing $300 million to build a new poultry plant in Benton County, Arkansas.
The new plant, which will be a significant source of new contracts for local poultry farmers, is scheduled to be operational by 2019, will employ 2,300 people by the year 2022, and was made possible with the support and cooperation of the cities of Decatur and Gentry, Arkansas, the State of Arkansas, and the Arkansas Economic Development Commission.
The facility will produce fresh and frozen chicken products for retail and restaurant buyers, and will have a production capacity of 850 million pounds of poultry meat per year. It will be joining Simmons’ existing operations in the region which include a feed mill, hatchery, propane business, a chicken processing facility, a dry pet food production facility, and business offices. Once construction is complete, a portion of the company’s chicken processing will be transferred to the new plant.
