Tyson to Build $320M Poultry Complex in Kansas

Tyson Foods announced it plans to build a $320 million poultry complex in northeast Kansas in response to high consumer demand for chicken.

Construction of the site is scheduled to begin in mid-2019, and will include a processing plant, a hatchery, and a feed mill in Leavenworth County. It will employ 1,600 people and will extend contracts to regional farmers and ranchers across northeast Kansas to raise chickens.

The facility will have a production capacity of 1.25 million birds per week, and is expected to generate an economic benefit to the state of $150 million per year.

Availability of grain and labor, along with a reliable transportation network were driving factors in Tyson choosing Kansas for the site of its complex.

Earlier in 2017 Tyson announced its plan to shift production to a “No Antibiotics Ever” model, making the company the largest such producer in the world, and this site will be an extension of that plan. Farmers and ranchers interested in producing chickens for the new Tyson site are asked to go to www.growwithtyson.com for more information.
