POET Begins $120M Expansion at Ohio Ethanol Plant

POET Biorefining, one of the top ethanol producers in the U.S., has broken ground on a $120 million expansion at its Marion, Ohio, ethanol production facility.

Once complete, the project is expected to more than double capacity at the site - raising output from 70 million gallons of ethanol per year to 150 million gallons.

The project, which will create 225 jobs during construction and between 18 and 21 new jobs at the site, is also being viewed as a means of lifting grain prices through increased demand. The expansion is expected to give greater stability to the local grain market by doubling the amount of corn the plant requires, with POET buying as much as 50 million bushels of corn per year.

The expansion is scheduled to be completed during the late summer or early fall of 2018.
