Viterra Building New Elevator in Alberta
Viterra has secured all needed regulatory approvals to begin construction of a new high throughput grain elevator in Vegreville, Alberta this spring.
The site will have a storage capacity of 35,000 tons and will have a loop track serviced by CN Rail that will enable the facility to load up to 135 rail cars – complementing Viterra’s strong port presence by connecting local farmers and Viterra customers to global markets.
The announcement is the latest in a string of expansionary moves by the group in Canada including the opening of a high throughput grain terminal in St. Agathe, Manitoba in October 2016, upgrades at its Pacific Terminal in Vancouver, British Columbia designed to increase and enhance shipping throughput, capacity, handling, and processing procedures while strengthening Viterra’s presence on Canada’s West coast; the building of a new grain terminal in Wadena in Saskatchewan, and the opening of its Tempest pulse facility which will clean, store, and ship pulse crops; the opening of its grain terminal in Kindersley with the capacity to store 28,000 tons of grain and to load 108 railcars, and the opening of its Grimshaw grain terminal with 30,000 tons of storage capacity and the ability to load 104 railcars.
