ADM Raises European Sunflower, Rapeseed Crushing Capacity
Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has nearly doubled its sunflower crushing capacity at its re-opened Ukraine-based facility as demand from manufacturers in the feed and food spaces for meal and oil climbs.
The decision to upgrade the facility follows a ten year period in the country during which sunflower seed production more than doubled, and includes the replacement of an extraction plant, the extension of seed preparation production lines, and the addition of another biomass boiler. In addition, the company has included switch capacity at the facility enabling it to also crush rapeseed depending on the harvest progress of each crop, and shifting demand and margins.

Earlier this year the company also upgraded its plant in Straubing, Germany to include switch capacity to include the processing of GMO-free soybeans from Bavaria and Austria to supply to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
At the time, the company also stated that it was exploring plans to further expanding its soy crushing capabilities at other sites across northwest Europe.
