Viterra Upgrades its Pacific Terminal in Vancouver

Viterra, the largest grain handler in Canada, announced it has upgraded its Pacific Terminal in Vancouver, British Columbia as it pursues new international markets.

The overall project was designed to increase and enhance shipping throughput, capacity, handling, and processing procedures while strengthening Viterra’s presence on Canada’s West coast.

The most prominent upgrade was the inclusion of a new ship loader system, which will give the terminal the capacity of up to six million tons per year.

Other key improvements include the dredging and expansion of the Pacific Basin to accommodate Panamax vessels in the new ship loading area. The enlargement of the basin to allow for vessels of up to 245 meters; the construction of new marine structures to support front traveling rail and fender systems, the construction of new mooring dolphins, and the addition of a new covered 72-inch wide yard conveyor to feed the new ship loader.

Viterra has also recently added new facilities in Northern Alberta and Saskatchewan and is adding another new facility in Winnipeg, while also opening a new lentil crushing facility in Southern Alberta.
