Trans Cargo Terminal Upgrades Moldova Grain Terminal – Doubles Capacity

Trans Cargo Terminal, a subsidiary of Trans-Oil Group has completed the expansion of its grain export terminal at Giurgiulesti International Free Port in Moldova on the Danube River.

The $6 million project, which included the construction of an additional berth, the construction of a silo with 12,000 tons of capacity, the addition of a new deep water jetty, and the installation of high capacity loading equipment, has enabled the terminal to now load more than 1,000 tons of grain per hour onto vessels of up to 8,000 tons or river barges, making it the fastest grain loading site in the region.

The site now has total grain storage capacity of 70,000 tons and transshipment capacity of 800,000 tons – up from 300,000 tons per year.

These improvements will allow Moldova to ship the bulk of its grain production directly from the country to international markets. Moldova ships most of its bulk grain to Mediterranean markets, while shipments to Asia generally are exports via sea containers.
