European Commission Proposes Raising Duty-free Ukrainian Grain Imports
The European Commission has proposed an increase to the volume of duty-free grain imported into the EU from Ukraine to more than one million tons of wheat and corn combined.
In total, the proposal includes annual quotas of 100,000 tons of wheat, 650,000 tons of corn and 350,000 tons of barley – which would be considered in addition to the existing quotas of 950,000 tons of wheat, 400,000 tons of corn and 250,000 tons of barley.
The proposal, which if accepted would apply for three years, is a move by the EU to help strengthen Ukraine’s economy and integrate the country into deeper trade relations with the EU bloc.
Other crops that would qualify for duty-free imports under the proposal include, oats, honey, tomatoes and grape juice.
