Emerald Grain Appoints New CEO
David Johnson, Emerald Grain’s former chief operating officer, will assume the role of chief executive officer upon the retirement of John Murray, who has held the position for three years.
Mr. Johnson has 25 years of experience in the global grain industry including pool manager at AWB prior to deregulation, general manager of trading and marketing, and then chief operating officer with Emerald Grain. In his three years heading up the company, Murray oversaw the acquisition of SQP Grain and Southern Ag Grain, guided the introduction of digital grower interfaces including Grain Mate, and shifted the company’s acquisition model from pool-based to cash only.
Emerald Grain was acquired by Japan’s Sumitomo Corp. in February 2014, giving the company the reinforcement it needed for strategic growth, positioning the company as one of Australia’s top grain marketers and suppliers with 11 grain storage facilities across Victoria and New South Wales, a Melbourne Port Terminal and a joint venture terminal at Port Kembla.
