Richardson Doubles Capacity at Vancouver Terminal, Sets Shipping, Handling Records

Following a $140 million expansion project, Richardson International has doubled its storage and receiving capacity at its export terminal in Vancouver.

Working on the project while the terminal remained in full operation, the company increased its storage capacity at the site to 178,000 tons by adding an 80,000 ton concrete grain storage annex to its terminal, and upgraded and improved its rail yard and receiving systems for increased efficiency.

Begun in 2013 and finished earlier this year, the project has given the terminal the ability to handle more than six million tons of grain and oilseeds per year.

Historically, the Vancouver terminal shipped three million tons of grain annually, however in 2015 its set a new record, shipping 5.2 million tons. In April 2016, the site shipped 551,000 for the month, surpassing the previous record of 489,000 tons, and received 5,400 rail cars, 200 more than any month on record.

"Our Vancouver expansion was a significant investment in our business to ensure we have the appropriate capacity on the West Coast," says Curt Vossen, President and CEO of Richardson International. "As Canada's leading agribusiness, we have positioned ourselves globally to efficiently move Canadian grains and oilseeds to emerging markets in Asia-Pacific and other areas, further enhancing our ability to serve our farm customers at home and international buyers around the world."
