CHS, Mid-Kansas Co-op Partner on Grain Terminal Project
CHS Inc. and Mid-Kansas Cooperative (MKC) announced they are partnering to build and operate a high speed rail-shuttle grain terminal with access to the BNSF rail line in Milan, Kansas.
Preparation of the construction site is beginning this month and upon completion the facility will have a receiving capacity via truck of 100,000 bushels per hour and a rail load-out capacity of 80,000 bushels per hour. It will include a rail track capacity of 120 railcars in addition to mainline locomotives, and expected to be completed by May 31, 2017.
The venture will operate under the name, Producer Ag, and will be owned by both CHS and MKC, with the terminal to be operated by MKC.
Both companies have been actively expanding in recent years. In 2014 MKC began construction of a 110-car train shuttle to transport grain to the Gulf of Mexico. Last year, both companies announced their commitment to expand the site to bring its storage capacity up from its current three million bushels to 7.5 million bushels.
