China Shipping Group Starts Grain Shipping Service with China’s COFCO
China Shipping Group has signed a contract with China’s COFCO for the shipping of 3.5 million tons of grain per year.
Under the three year agreement, China Shipping Group will be a dedicated shipper of grain from Latin America for the handler, beginning immediately. Two options for a one year extension will be written into the agreement, as well.
The bulk vessel, Cofco 1, along with two other bulk grain vessels will be deployed, operating along regular routes between South America and Asia.
The Cofco 1 was built in 2014, has an overall length of 229 meters and a maximum draft of nine meters. The gross tonnage is 45,263 GRT and the vessel, which is owned by China Shipping Group’s bulk carrier subsidiary, is operated under the flag of Hong Kong.
The remaining two ships have not yet been nominated, and the financial terms of the contract have not yet been disclosed.
