Idaho Officials Announce Taiwan Flour Millers to Sign Wheat Deal

The Idaho Department of Agriculture has announced that representatives from the Taiwan Flour Millers Association are expected to sign an agreement within days that will support two years of U.S. wheat exports.

A statement released by the Idaho Wheat Commission and the state’s Agriculture Department, said that under the terms of the $544 million deal, the Taiwan Flour Millers Association will import 70,000 tons, or 2.5 million bushels of U.S. wheat every month to be distributed to their members.

The Taiwanese delegation is traveling to Lewiston, Idaho on September 10 where they will visit a grain terminal, elevator, and wheat farm in the area.

In 2014, Idaho exported more than $470 million worth of products to Taiwan, according to Idaho Agriculture Department Director, Andy Chin, and half of the state’s wheat crop is shipped to overseas market, according to Idaho Wheat Commission Chairman, Joe Anderson.
