China’s Farmsun Co. Ltd. to Build a Dedicated Aquafeed Mill in Zambia
China’s Farmsun Co. Ltd. has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Yalelo Ltd. to build a dedicated aquafeed mill in Zambia for US$6 million.
The facility will have an initial production capacity of 25,000 tons per year, but will incorporate a modular design that will enable the expansion of its capacity to 50,000 tons per year. The capacity is expected to be sufficient to meet the feed demands of Yalelo’s tilapia farming operation, and Zambia’s growing aquaculture sector. Delivery of necessary production machinery is expected to happen in early 2016, with construction to be completed in late 2016.
"This investment builds on our goal of supporting the Zambian aquaculture value-chain,” says Yalelo Chairman, Mr. Taylor. “Reliable supply of high quality aquafeed is necessary for a sustainable sector….”
Using the latest technologies, the mill is expected to produce the highest quality floating aquafeed in Africa, including the production of the only sub-1.0 millimeter pellets. Given Zambia’s growing production of non-GMO soybeans, the mill is expected to provide a high level of value to both farmers and consumers through the end products.
