Aviagen Completes Multi-Million Dollar Feed Mill Expansion
U.S. poultry breeding company, Aviagen, has invested $3 million to upgrade and expand the capacity at its Athens, Alabama feed mill in order to meet the higher demand created by increased production and new farms.
Included in the project, Aviagen has installed the world’s largest custom built Hygieniser – a state-of-the-art pellet feed system built by California Pellet Mill Company that eliminates pathogens from feed using thermal technology.
Together with the company’s existing Hygieniser, capacity at the site has been increased by 66%, enabling the mill to produce as much as 50 tons of feed per hour to service over 100 poultry breeding farms in Tennessee and Northern Alabama.
The facility is also following strict biosecurity measures to ensure that all feed produces on-site is free from contaminants, including the use of positive-pressure ventilation and other production practices employed to entirely isolate the feed from possible atmospheric contamination including wild birds or animals.
