North Dakota Mill Approved for $4.4M Expansion Project

The North Dakota Industrial Commission has approved a $4.4 million expansion project that will include nine new bulk storage bins at the North Dakota Mill in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The project, which is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2016, is estimated to save the company $656,000 per year as a result of reduced bulk loading time, mill down time and bulk rail car leasing costs.

In the fall of 2014 the commission approved $19.81 million to fund the expansion of milling capacity at North Dakota Mill by 11,500 hundredweight (cwts) per day, and in the spring of last year approval was granted for a $7.98 million expansion project for the construction of an additional building on site.

Following the series of recent expansions and upgrades, North Dakota Mill has grown to become the sixth largest milling company in the U.S. with total milling capacity of 49,500 cwts, and is owner of the country’s largest single mill, surpassing Kraft Foods’ mill in Toledo, Ohio with a daily capacity of 31,000 cwts.
