Richardson Expanding Food Business with Acquisition of Margarine and Shortening Producer

Winnipeg-based, global manufacturer, handler, processor, and trader of Canadian grains and oilseeds, and canola-based products, Richardson International Limited, has announced it is expanding its food business with the purchase of Ontario-based margarine and shortening producer, Golden Gate.

The Golden Gate purchase represents Richardson’s next step in the development of its packaged food business. With this latest acquisition, Richardson will have two margarine and shortening plants in the province, following the 2011 purchase of Innovative Foods, a margarine and shortening producer with facilities in Ontario and New Brunswick. The combined capacity of these two acquisitions will strengthen Richardson’s standing as a national-scale supplier, serving all segments of the market including industrial, retail, and food service.

Richardson has grown to become one of Canada’s largest, integrated, canola processing, refining, and packaging companies with a network that can enable the company to transform canola from the farm gate to finished products on the consumer market.
