Glanbia Nutritionals Announces Second Ancient Grain Investment

Glanbia Nutritionals is making a further investment of an undisclosed amount into its recently opened gluten-free oat milling facility in Portlaoise, Ireland with the goal of increasing its presence in the ancient grains market.

Glanbia’s second investment into the facility, which will mill 13,000 tons of gluten-free porridge oats this year, will allow for the added production of oat flour at the plant. This added capacity will allow for future capitalization within the highly popular functional food and drink sector.

In addition, Glanbia launched its 100% vegan HarvestPro range of plant proteins at Vitafoods on May 5. The range, which is derived from the ancient grains, flax and chia, can be incorporated into a wide variety of foods, beverages, snacks, backed goods, and bars.

As consumers seek out more natural and value added food products, ancient grains are becoming more popular. Regional direct for Glanbia Nutritionals Ingredient Technoloiges, Carla Clissman, tells Food Manufacturer, “With new product introductions incorporating ancient grains on an upward trajectory, it is clear that consumers are seeking these ingredients and their inherent benefits in their diets.”
