CHS, Aurora Open Superior East
Nebraska-based Aurora Cooperative, one of the leading grain marketing companies in the U.S., and the nation’s biggest farmer-owned co-operative, CHS Inc., have announced the completion of construction of Superior East elevator under the new entity Superior East, LLC.
Superior East LLC was formed under the new ‘CHS Partnered Equity Program’ through which a co-op can leverage its equity in CHS as a contribution toward a joint venture with CHS. Superior East is a 50/50 joint venture that will have a board comprised of representatives from both CHS and Aurora, however, the complex will be operated by the Aurora Cooperative.
The new venture will have the capacity to store 1,250,000 bushels of grain and 10,000 tons of liquid fertilizer. It will include a 120-car circle track on the BNSF railway that will transport soybeans, corn and hard winter wheat to markets to the west and south, including Mexico. In addition, the site, one mile east of Superior on Nebraska 8, will provide a grain ground-piling system, and will have the space and ability to expand its storage capacity for both grain and liquid fertilizer in the future, according to the Aurora Cooperative.
