Agspring Acquires Moreland Grain & Seed

Agspring, a leader in grains and oilseeds, feed ingredients, and consumer food ingredients, has acquired Moreland Grain & Seed Co. Agspring plans to integrate Moreland’s grain handling, storage, merchandising, and sales capacity with the milling quality grain storage and merchandising operations of its subsidiary, Thresher Artisan Wheat.

Founded by Ray Carlson, Moreland Grain & Seed has a storage capacity of approximately 1.8 million bushels, including a marque 600,000 bushel bin added in 2011 and a 25-car rail spur with Union Pacific. Thresher plans to make post-integration upgrades to the Moreland facility prior to the 2015 harvest.

Through the merging of businesses, Moreland customers will be able to benefit from Thresher’s long standing relationships with its growers and its seed and identity preservation programs, and be able to participate in yield improvement and sustainability programs under Agspring’s EverYield initiative.

Carlson will continue as an adviser to the business, and the majority of Moreland employees will be retained under the new venture.
