Trade Group Offers Cross Border Grain Information
The Canadian Marketing Freedom for Grain Farmers Act of 2011 and the dissolution of the Canadian Wheat Board have affected the opportunities for grain handlers and buyers, and the regulations affecting these opportunities. To help farmers, grain buyers and handlers navigate these changes, the Canada-U.S. Grain and Seed Trade Task Group has built a website to improve the flow of information regarding topics such as phytosanitary requirements and border protocols to be followed when moving grain across the border between the two countries. After seeing the problems that a lack of transparency led to in other industries, the group wanted to be proactive, rather than reactive to confusion, and has vetted its information with regulators from both the U.S. and Canada.
